Sooo, you have have read that the band was on a temporary hiatus. We were. And we are. Until June.
I'm still in Boston right now finishing up a semester at Berklee, and when it's done I'll be moving to Wilmington with the rest of the guys and the band will be back in gear. I honestly can't wait. Even though we'll all be busy with our own projects, the band will be back in a big way come June, so be on the look out.
If you haven't checked us out in a while, please go ahead and visit out site here.
and add us on myspace!
thanks everyone. hope to hear from you soon |

music: I Don't Know What It Is - Rufus Wainwright
|
That's right, after a year and a half the record is finally done!
If anyone is interested in hearing some of it you can check it out at Purevolume
And, if you like it you can grab a copy here.
It's $10 for 6 songs. I know that sucks. But we spent $20,000 to record it. Yes, really. So we'd be really happy to make like 1/4 of that back.
Let me know what you think. And tell your friends. But not if you think it sucks. |

Alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright, alright now ladies...
So Mike came over at like 11:45p after he got out of work. I was on the phone with my favorite Southerner (Virginia from Virginia) when he arrived. We sat around and just talked about funny shit until Zack, Nick, and Al got out of work.
Then the fun began. We got sooooo stoned. Drove around in Al's Honda and explored the lovely metropolis of Utica, NY.
We went through the all nite drive thru at micky- d's and some asshole in front of us ordered a cup filled with "half fruitopia, half sprite, and half water"
Aside from the fact that the aforementioned concoction would taste like ass, it adds up to THREE HALVES.
So, of course, we laughed at him and yelled out the window as he struggled to describe his dream beverage to the poor girl at window #1
we all decided to head out the the velley brook and get hammered for tomorrow night. should be fun. it's been a really long time since we've all gotten drunk together. should be awesome. expect a better entry tomorrow.
oh, and the cd is totally mixed. so all we gotta do now is design a cover and get it mastered. should be on sale in a month or two. yeeeeeeee ha!
anyway, it's time for me to go listen to a little death cab and kick my dog off my bed so i can sleep.
don't worry, i won't literally kick him. fuck, i probably won't even make him leave. i spoil that fucking dog.
i'm talking about my dog in a band post. too stoned.
so i'm out like a fat kid in dodgeball
goodnight

Mike and I just built a studio.
It's called the milkhouse, and we're looking for projects to record. If you're in the Utica area and you're interested in a high quality low-budget recording, check us out.

The website is sick. I just made it yesterday. We have all of our contact info, a gear list, rates, and audio clips of past projects.

Ok, so we just got yelled at for not updating.
...Terribly sorry.
There hasn't been a whole lot going on lately. Mixing continues and is going really well. Only 3 songs left.
Also, this is my last night in Boston. I'm going home tomorrow, so we can get back into the normal routine of practicing and playing shows.
It's 2:43 AM and I haven't packed at all. I did, however, record 2 seperate projects today. Way more fun than packing.
I'll update sometime this weekend when there's more going on.
Don't forget to hug your moms on Sunday kids.

So, it's finally going to happen...
The guys are coming out for the weekend. It's going to be ridiculous. We're all going to the Third Eye Blind show at the Hatch Shell on Saturday. It's free, and it starts at noon. If anyone from Beantown is going let us know and we'll chill.
That's it for tonight. Sorry for the lack of excitement. But rest assured that there will be a high quality journal entry Sunday morning.

mood: accomplished music: "Silence is Easy" - Starsailor
|
So, after a brief discussion with the rest of the band, it was decided that the old flash intro on the website was getting old.
So, I made a new one last night. Nothing too fancy, but i think it looks a lot cooler than the old one. And the song clip is new also. It's from the end of "Lost." I think you guys will like it.
If you wanna check out the intro just click here
Not too much else to report at this point. The mixing stage of the album continues, and from what I hear it's going well. It's looking like the album will be totally mixed before I even get home from school. Which, if that's the case, means the album could be out as soon as July. But we're not making any guarantees. This album started off as a 4 song EP to be completed over a 2 month period. Right now we have 11 songs and have been working for about 10 months.
Well worth the time and money though. The album is coming out insanely well, and I know you'll all like it. Seriously. I know. I called Miss Cleo.
And I digress.
See you later boys and girls.

I was supposed to be writing an essay on anthropomorphization...
But on a fun scale of one to ten, that's somewhere near two.
So i drank Jim Beam instead.
Rock and Roll is life. My band will be signed to a major label within the next 4 years, and i will drive a Porsche.
And in other band related news, we're playing with the Long Beach Dub All-Stars on April 23rd (i think?). For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Long Beach Dub All Stars include former members of Sublime. The show should be dope.
It took me a really long time to type this, and I think I did a pretty good job considering my current level of inebriation.
Anyway, i'm out like Clay Aiken.

Hey everyone, Hope you all had a good Easter.
The trip home was pretty fun...
The bus ride sucked, but I got home and had some real pizza. Boston pizza blows.
We practiced for about an hour on saturday and then packed up for the show. We got some free food and saw a few old friends (i.e. Tebs). The show went really well. Mike and Zack started off with a 45 minute acoustic set and then Nick and I joined them for 2 more.
Then, some random drunk guy gave us $20 to play "My Own Worst Enemy" by Lit. We hadn't played it since we were 15 (thank God) but we bullshitted it because we're poor as fuck and needed the money.
After the show some partying occurred. As usual.
In other band related news: I got to hear some of the mixes from the studio and they sound amazing. The mixing is going really fast too, and we should be done in a few weeks. Then, mastering and duplication. At this point, I can't possibly see the album being on sale any later than August.
Anywho, that's it for today kids. Be good, and eat your veggies.

...and so the online promotion plan enters a new phase.
We have recently added MySpace to our promotion efforts. If you don't already have MySpace or want to find out what it is, check out their website http://www.myspace.com
It's basically a service for meeting new people and keeping track of friends. It's pretty cool.
If you're on MySpace already, look us up and add us! Just search for Oblique Band.
So far, in a 24 hour period, we've had 70 people add us as a friend, which is exactly as many as on Livejournal for a 4 day period. It's all good though, I still like Livejournal better. We got way more hits from you guys than those MySpace losers. Haha. Oh, and I only messaged hot girls on myspace, which is terribly chauvinistic, but also quite awesome. That's basically our demographic anyway though, and there's nothing wrong with targeted advertising. Damn, I'm going to Hell.
Annnyyyywwaay, I'll be traveling via Greyhound tomorrow from Beantown to lovely Utica, NY to get back for the show. Should be fun, as long as I don't have to sit next to a fat, smelly hippie again. I've got some serious Greyhound hell stories.
So, for any of you that are from the Utica area and are 21+, check out our show Saturday night at Knucklehead's on Oriskany blvd. in Whitesboro.
That's it for tonight's episode, kids. Be sure to tune in tomorrow when I bitch about the uncomfortable seats on the bus and how I hate the stupid 1 hour layover in Albany.
I'm off like a prom dress.
-kev
P.S. I met a girl on MySpace today who totally loved us and just happens to be good friends with Arion Salazar from Third Eye Blind. It seems legit, she sent me pics of them hanging out in some house. Anyway, she's gonna tell him about us, so that's definitely awesome. |

We made lots of cash for the studio today. And our new Mixing Engineer is ridiculously good. So the album is gonna be even sicker.
(and i'm stoned again and it took me like 45 minutes to make the money sign above, cuz i couldn't count and keep track of all the lines and make it symetrical)

Now, I shall go watch the movie "Pi" and then drift off to sleep to the lovely sounds of Brad Mehldau's new album of jazz standards; "Anything Goes." I highly reccommend that you all indulge yourselves and purchase the LP.

Its a late sunday night, and were sitting around the fire sipping on some Jack Daniels waiting to get things going for this weekend (our show at Knuckleheads.) Also, the thought of mixing this week brings a titilating sensation to our minds....or maybe thats just the Jack D. Kev should be in New York on friday to meet up with the rest of us to rock out. This weeks studio sessions will definatley consist of a handle of Jack, a handle of Gin, a handle of rum, and some smokes. We are really exited to get back in the studio and get "The Righteous Curse" finished up. Our Studio Engineer has been delayed in Santa Cruz, California for a month or so, so the desicion was made to bring in a new engineer to finish the job. We will keep you updated on this weeks progress and the show on saturday. Until then, stay tuned Kids. Rock and Roll is Life Zack, Mike, Nick P.S. THERES A SNAKE IN MY BOOT! ...and don't be afraid to let us know what you think on our forum. we got 400 hits today, but only 2 comments on the message board. that makes oblique sad :(

Hey Everybody,
Thanks for checking out our new journal. Be sure to check back every week for new and exciting stories of Rock & Roll and alcohol abuse.
We've been doing a lot of work lately trying to book shows in both Utica and Boston. We're also in the mixing stage of the album, and we should hopefully be done within the next several months (then it's time for mastering).
At this point it's looking like the album should be on sale by August. Keep your fingers crossed.
Anyway, that's it for the first installment of our new Live Journal. Adios kids.
